Radiohead New Track

Radiohead. We love them. Even if you don't, you are familiar with their more Radiofriendly (<--slick word play) songs. I'd bet the farm that you probably drank 3 JagaBombs and 2 hours into karaoke destroyed Creep.

In Rainbows, Radiohead's last album release, was released in 2007 and was one of the first successful cases of a "digital release" album. Pretty much they invited you to pay whatever you wanted for their album. Call me a fool, but I paid full boat. Few bands give you what you pay for and deserve it in return. Radiohead is one of them.

Part of the reason behind their digital release album release was to show EMI, their former record label, how they can be successful without all the hoopla big name record's can bring into the picture. The result 3 million plus sales and 2 Grammy Nominations, although if you watched them at the Grammy's it looked like they'd rather watch paint dry while getting punched in the stomach.

So if you follow them like I do you say, Where do you go from there? The free route still exists, however, as far as full album release goes. You just ain't getting it. Radiohead has decided to release one song at a time for free download on their website.

Personally, I'm not sure how I feel about this. Call me old school, but even in an era where actually owning a CD/Vinyl or any physical entity of music is slowly fading, I would at least like to have an album that I can buy from start to finish.

Blood Sugar Sex Magik is one of my all time fav's by the RHCP and the way Rick Rubin constructed the song sequence was utterly genius. Each song flowed beautifully into the next song. I'm sure you have albums, Michael Jackson Live in Budapest for example, where you almost have to hear the song after the original song you hit play to. Even when I burn my Boner Jam Mega Mix CD's I start to hum the song that was "supposed" to come after the one I'm listening to as if I was listening to the original album. With the way Radiohead is approaching their music, this feeling could be lost forever.

Now if you scroll down you'll see I put their first release, These Are My Twisted Words, up for your listening and viewing pleasure. Now the song is performed great and is just an all around great tune. Haunting similar to There, there if you ask me, but the song almost has a demo feel to it. Is this some type of way for Radiohead to maybe test out music through the fans for an eventual album release. I kinda hope so. Until then enjoy and here's a quote from Jonny Greenwood (RULES) about this track.

So here's a new song, called 'These Are My Twisted Words'.
We've been recording for a while, and this was one of the first we finished.
We're pretty proud of it. There's other stuff in various states of completion, but this is one we've been practising, and which we'll probably play at this summer's concerts. Hope you like it.

That's What She Said,

Mike Love
