Rich Rod Becomes Emotional
Do you like this story?
Rich Rod grabbed the microphone today and went into action. In response to the Detroit Free Press story that The Rich Rod regime went to extreme measures in making their players attend Sunday practices from early in the morning until late into the night.
Numerous players on the 2008 and 2009 teams said the program far exceeded limits intended to protect athletes from coaching excesses and to ensure fair competition.
Two players called Michigan’s off-season requirements “ridiculous.” The players described the coaches’ expectations as an ongoing concern among many teammates. Parents of several players agreed.
The players and parents agreed to talk only if they were not identified because they said they feared repercussions from the coaching staff.
Rich Rod responded to these allegations by saying:
"I guess I'm here to tell you that whatever you've heard or want to believe, the trust is that this coaching staff cares very deeply about the young men in our program," he said. "We know the rules, we go by the rules." Then breaking away from the speech due to his very emotional state.
At several times during this pre-made, pin the blame on my strength coach speech, Rich Rod had to stop himself before he really broke down and made a fool of himself.
The after effect of this drama is going to be two fold. 1) You're going to start seeing a lot of kids decommit to Michigan. The hand writing is on the wall. 2) Instead of maybe Rich Rod sticking around the program for another year, regardless of his record, look for Rich Rod to be out the door by the beginning of November. I wouldn't be surprised if the AD followed.
